Attention iPad Users!

If you want to take full advantage of the Tracks4Africa Overland navigator, then you need to have an iPad with a GPS installed. (Note: some iPads only have WIFI, and no 3G, in which case you will have a problem with our APP). What you need to understand is that iPads with 3G, also have a GPS receiver built in. The iPads with only WiFi does not have a GPS receiver built in (but can still determine your approximate location when in range of a WiFi network).
This holds true for all iPad models; iPad2, iPad3 and iPad Mini. This information is valid up to August 2013 when this document was written, Apple may in future change how they package their products.

This offline app offers a great map and huge amount of detailed places of interest for planning your next safari. Your GPS location will ensure you stay orientated while using the app on your self-drive trip.
This is not a routing/navigation app. The app aims to bring you offline access (i.e. no internet connection required) to the following:
• A detailed map of the country or region you purchase. The country map roughly corresponds to a 1:1 000 000 paper map in terms of its detail and will allow you to view the map at different zoom levels. The map works similar to a web map with the difference being that all information is installed on your device. It contains place names like cities, towns and villages together with a detailed road and track network. It also shows you all protected areas such as national parks and game reserves together with relevant background data such as rivers, mountains and major attractions.
• A detailed guide with the following categories: Places (cities, towns, etc), Attractions & Activities, Parks, Scenic Routes, Camps, Lodging, Food & Drink, Fuel, Shopping, Services and More (miscellaneous points of interest). The guide information is linked to a location on the map and will display as a pin on the map for you to know where it is in reference to where you are.

Beside the individual country map of South Africa there is a variety of combined maps. They do contain the same level of detail data than the individual country maps. We offer them for your convenience and besides this you can save money compared to the individual maps. We took a lot of care to convert the maps so they will work on your Garmin GPS navigation devices. All files are converted to the Garmin .img format. All Garmin GPS maps are routable. The maps are stored in a zip file containing the .img file for Garmin devices.
